Summer Reading for 10H English Classes
May 27, 2015
This summer, English 10 Honors classes will be required to complete a reflective journal after reading a novel. Students have the option to select either The Color of Water by James McBride or The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeanette Walls for the reading assignment. The purpose of a summer reading assignment is to continue the process of reading and critical thinking throughout the break. In addition, both texts tie into the narrative writing assignment that will be endeavored in the first quarter. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I will try to answer any questions that you may have.

Ipad pilot run: sophomore english class
July 28, 2015
As we begin to transition to the one-to-one program at New Albany High School, my sophomore English classes will be provided with an iPad for in-class academic use. With the rise in technology in the last twenty years, it is important that digital literacy is a part of the literacy curriculum. We will be integrating many different forms of technology into the classroom.
We have a WordPress that is utilized as a digital space for Socratic seminars regarding the readings and discussions that are a part of this school year's curriculum. Please feel free to check out our WordPress to read some of the forum posts that lend insight into the thought process and critically articulated viewpoints of students in my classroom. The link is: yet to be created… but will be coming sometime this semester.

August 22, 2015
Our class WordPress is published and ready to go. We will go over this more in class. However, you are welcome to check it out in advance. We will be having online Socratic seminars on this blog. Getting into the habit of writing forums will help build your literary analysis and better prepare you for college level expectations.

Grade Concerns: English 9
Any student who received a failing grade on the first quarter progress report will now be responsible for monitoring their grades. I am concerned by students who are failing, because I want all students in my class to succeed both in knowledge retention and grade wise. Therefore, within this new accountability policy, students who do not turn in an assignment need to indicate why he or she is not receiving credit (exp. did not do homework, do not understand assignment, do not care, etc.). This will help me as an educator be responsive to students who made need help, but are hesitant in asking for help or assignment expectation clarification.
